Purpose

The Provincial Family Violence Treatment Program (PFVTP) is a contracted partnership between Alberta Health Services PFVTP team and McMan, to provide assessment and treatment services clients who have been mandated to, referred to, or self-referred (non-mandated) to the program due to intimate partner violence. McMan facilitates a 15-week psycho educational group for those who have used violence in a relationship. AHS completes assessments prior to group and then supports the client while in group with addiction and mental heath supports when needed.

Process

A referral to the AHS-PFVTP team is made by Probation, Children Services or through self-referral for individuals that have used violence in their intimate relationships. A member of the AHS-PFVTP team would then meet with the referred individual to complete an assessment. Once completed, and it is determined that group is the most appropriate next step then AHS will send a referral to McMan for group. The McMan PFVTP team would then do an intake and have the individual take part in the next available group.

Outcomes

McMan PFVTP group facilitators will work with participants through all of the curriculum components which include: Exploring and Defining Abuse, Responsibility and Accountability, Identifying Emotions and Emotional Regulation, Skill Development, Examining Beliefs, Boundaries, Safe Parenting, Multi-generational and Intergenerational Transmission of Violence, and Substance Abuse and Addiction.
